Leyton Orient Football Club Remembrance

Acts of Remembrance at the O’s

Each year and further to the research undertaken by Steve Jenkins on Clapton Orient’s service and sacrifice in the Great War, Leyton Orient hold an Act of Remembrance on the pitch at half-time should the O’s have a home fixture on the weekend of Remembrance Sunday.

The interest and support shown, not only by the football club, but also the many thousands that have witnessed this important event is evident by the close attention and respect shown by all those in attendance. Over the years, family members of the Clapton Orient lads lost on the Somme have taken part in the ceremony which is strongly supported by the Leyton Branch of the Royal British Legion.

In the early years it was just the O’s Buglers that took part in the ceremony, but as the interest and support has grown, other organisations have joined them including the Leyton Branch of the Royal British Legion and the local Army Cadets.

Leyton Orient Football Club are extremely proud to hold this important ceremony as the Club remembers its fallen, not only in the Great War but also in more recent times when one of the O’s stewards, Robert Foster was killed in 2007 whilst serving in Afghanistan serving with the Royal Anglican Regiment.
